Chapter Nine
Tail flicking lazily behind him, Talon stared at the she-cat in front of him. She was pleasing to the eyes, and she held herself up like one of those warriors from those clan cats. But, it was her eyes that drew the most attention.
There was a dull fire in them, however, there were the faintest traces of sadness in them. And every time she looked in his direction, small shreds of hope sparked into life.
‘Whatever happened to her, do not get involved,Talon,’ he reprimanded himself before casually striding over to the ladder and peered down over the ledge. Hunger was making his belly grumble.
“Haven’t had the chance to eat anything yet,” Talon said in that sing-song voice of his. Turning to glance back at the she-cat, that small lilt of a smile appeared back on his face.
The question in his eyes was clear: he was definitely asking her to join him. Starfleck was…..was she against the thought of it? Or did she really want to go with him? A decision like this? It could change her life if she joined him.
“I-” Just as she was about to give her decline, Starfleck looked him in the eyes - and was caught off guard at how the sun reflected on those greens. The bright rays caused his moss green to turn a lighter shade of emerald.
The she-cat could feel her breath getting caught in her throat as she softly gasped, it was just so breathtaking; those eyes of his. The world started to fade away, leaving them both staring at one another.
The resounding thump of her heart beating loudly seemed to echo around them. But, it was something only she could hear and feel in her ribcage. Eyes slightly widening, and shaking her head violently from side to side, Starfleck recovered herself while feeling her cheeks flush and her tail flicking nervously.
“Y-yes.” She stammered while looking away once more. Albeit, and hearing the resounding purr coming from Talon, Starfleck lightly smiled to herself.
Obviously happy with her answer, Talon began scampering down the ladder; scaling it with such expertise, even Starfleck was in awe.
‘For such a large cat, he knows how to move lightly.’ she thought as she cautiously began to scamper down as well. Though, every creak and groan from the wooden ladder made her pause every three paces before continuing.
At the last rung, one of her paws snagged from behind, causing Starfleck to stumble head over tail before landing in a heap in front of Talon; dust and straw flying everywhere around them. ‘Starclan!’
Grimacing as a roll of pain made its way through her body lightly, Starfleck rolled her eyes upwards while tilting her face. Talon just stared down at her before turning away and walked out of the open space without another word.
“For StarClan sake, Starfleck,” she groaned as she gingerly picked herself up, “you’ve definitely embarrassed yourself in front of another cat like a kit learning how to walk for the first time.”
