Chapter Ten
As the two cats began to circle around the barn, Starfleck was curious as to how he hunted. It was such a fascinating thing to see, and she couldn’t see what kind of tactics he would be using.
‘I wonder if he goes far away to hunt? That barn doesn’t look like it holds that much prey.’ which intrigued her on how he was able to stay in that condition from the lack of prey, in her eyes that is.
Unfortunately, her first and second assumptions were shattered. They didn’t really travel far, not even a rabbit hops away, and the way that Talon hunted wasn't the way she expected him to.
The fact that all he did was just chase after several large rats that had been scouring fallen seeds until he got one, not in the most tactile way, but in a way that the majority of cats could do, was baffling to her.
This…this removed the thought of him being a rogue from her mind completely. There was no finesse to it, nothing impressive to his movements. Unpolished, too stiff, and nothing more than a waste of her time.
Starfleck was so taken aback, that all she could was watch as Talon casually trotted over to where she was sitting next to a couple of sharp fangs, a small smirk forming as his jaws were clamped shut around the neck of a dead rat.
“What?” He asked the moment he got to her. He was perplexed as to why she was looking at him like he just created dirt in front of her. Right ear ticking to the side a bit, Talon would place the rat upon a small patch of grass.
“Nothing,” She growled softly, hunger completely leaving her. Turning her attention towards the sky, Starfleck’s eyes widened a bit when she noticed how low the sun was. ‘What, it’s this late already?!’
Panicking, Starfleck scrambled to her paws as though ticks had just started to bury themselves into her pelt. “I’ve got to go!”
‘Go?’ Confused as to what she meant by that, Talon yelped a little in surprise the moment Starfleck raced past him. “Uh….hey where are you going?!” He yelled out after her.
Unfortunately, the she-cat was already far gone to even hear him. All he could was just stare as her tail vanished in the thick undergrowth. For a split second, Talon held that smirk on his face, before it turned into a full blown dark smile.
“Clan cats are rather unusual, aren’t they?”
Though it appeared as if he was talking to himself, soft paw-steps emerged from the other side of the barn. Stepping into view, was a black she-cat with jagged white stripes covering her pelt. Long pointed ears that always angled to the side merely flicked upwards.
“Urgh, I thought she would never leave,” Voiced the she-cat with utter disgust dripping from her tongue as light pink eyes swiveled her gaze towards Talon.
“Honestly for a clan cat, she’s quite the naive one. Or is she a mouse-brain?” The she-cat chuckled dryly. “Wait, wait, wait! I got it! She’s both!”
“I keep wondering why I even keep dragging you with me,” Talon said with a slight shake of his head as he began walking away. Along the way, the tip of his tail lightly caressed the chin of the she-cat. “Come Zigzag. I think it’s time we find the others.”
Purring at the sensation of having her chin caressed by the tail of Talon, Zigzag happily began trotting after him.
