What is Diarmi?

Diarmi is a collaborative platform where fiction authors can build on each other's work. You can read the official "Canon" Story written by the original author, or explore a contributor "Path" where other writers take the narrative in completely new directions.

What is a Path?

A Path is a timeline. The Canon Path is the author's original vision (marked in purple). Contributor Paths are divergent timelines created by the community (marked in cyan). You can branch off any Passage in the canon to start your own path.

What is the Pathfinder?

The compass icon will take you to the Pathfinder, where you can browse all the Paths within a Story. Compare your current Passage to alternatives by browsing their description and tags. New Paths can start at any point in the Story, so the Pathfinder is there to help you discover them.

What is Dialogue?

Diarmi hosts a unique inline commenting system, which enables readers to discuss specific sentences instead of entire chapters. The Dialogue page helps you find comments you've left across Stories and Paths. You can also catch up on the most interesting discussions, and follow the notes of authors you follow.

What is the Monthly Challenge?

The Monthly Challenge is a way to spur engagement and introduce people to the concept of contributing Paths to existing stories on Diarmi. Each month, we highlight a story and invite the community to branch off from it with their own Paths. It's a great way to practice collaborative writing and discover new voices on the platform.

Is there a benefit for Guild members?

Yes. Members of the Author's Guild get twice as much credit for views on their passages within a challenge. This means when their monthly payout is calculated, those passages will be favored — making the Monthly Challenge a rewarding opportunity for Guild authors to grow their earnings.

How do I get paid?

There are two ways to earn on Diarmi:

• Tips: Readers can tip you directly on any passage. You receive 100% of the tip amount (we charge the transaction fee to the reader).
• The Author's Guild: Writers who are accepted into the Guild, and maintain good standing, receive monthly payouts from the Diarmi Unlimited subscription pool, based on the engagement their stories generate.

Do I own what I write?

Yes. You retain the copyright to your original characters and worlds. By publishing on Diarmi, you grant other users a license to create "Paths" (derivative works) based on your story within the Diarmi platform.

Can I monetize my Fanfiction?

No. To protect you and the platform from legal issues, Fanfiction cannot be placed behind a paywall. However, you can still build a following and receive tips if you are a Guild member.

What browsers are supported?

Diarmi works best on modern browsers like Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. We recommend keeping your browser updated for the best experience.

Is there a mobile app?

Diarmi is a progressive web app (PWA) that works great on mobile browsers. You can add it to your home screen for an app-like experience. Native mobile apps are on our roadmap.
