The moon leered out at the children as they walked. Which children you ask? It’s Jack and Amy Kramer, age 11; they are fraternal twins. They walk with purpose. The objective is to get candy. They lived on Whisper Street, and that was a very special street. Halloween magic existed here. Since they were highly imaginative children, they could easily access this magic.

“I see a zombie shuffling toward us,” Amy called out, pointing in the distance. Jack chuckled

at first.

“You’re seeing things,” he said and rolled his eyes. They soon heard moaning followed by a shuffling sound. Jack’s mouth hung open.

“No way,” Jack said. A zombie ambled into view. He dragged his foot along thefloor as he got closer to the children. His blue skin contrasted with his yellow teeth and steel blue eyes. The yellow face of the moon laughed. It started to rain. The thunderous laughter shook the houses. Amy pointed her plastic sword at the undead creature and spoke.

“Blackbeard, I see you’ve returned for revenge.”

The children suddenly found themselves on a red pirate ship. She was dressed in a captain’s outfit, which consisted of black boots, white pants, a dark petticoat, and a black captain’s hat. Her sword was now real, and she engaged in a sword fight with the zombie pirate. The clinking of metal sounded through the night. The moon changed from yellow to white. It went quiet, and the face of the moon went away. This was an eerie and serious battle; the moon respected that. Soon, he overpowered Amy and grabbed her by the throat. A shark fin popped up near the boat. Amy’s legs kicked at the air. Jack pulled out his pistol, aimed it at Blackbeard, and called out to him.

“He, you dead and ugly,” Jack said. Blackbeard turned to the boy and gave a sneer.

“You ever hear of a fair fight?” Jack asked.

“No way,” Blackbeard hissed.

“Yeah, neither have I,” Jack said, shooting the zombie. Blackbeard dropped the girl and fell into the water. The shark devoured the pirate as soon as he hit the water.

Jack put away his pistol and checked on his sister.

“Are you okay?” Jack asked. She panted and gave a quick nod.

“I’m okay,” she replied. “Thanks for saving me.” He blushed.

“You’re my sister. It’s what siblings do for one another, right?”

“I guess you’re right,” Amy said.

They once again found themselves back on Whisper Street. The moon was once again yellow. It was silent now. The man in the moon was no longer activated by the imaginati; on re, it was just a regular old moon again. They now holstered their fake pistol and sword. They set about their initial journey, which was to go trick-or-treating. However, they found it a bit boring. Jack turned to his sister and asked a question.

“Do you mind if I choose the adventure?” She nodded and said:

“Be my guest.”

They found themselves in a dark forest. They saw a cottage nearby. Inside was the tastiest candy that any child could imagine. The sweetest old lady stood on the porch. They heard the wolf howl and braced themselves for the upcoming battle.

They both carried lanterns and spoke with lyrical Irish accents.

“What’s with the Irish accents?” Amy asked. Jack gave a quick shrug.

“I just always wanted an Irish accent,” Jack said. They walked toward the cottage. The wolf’s howling became louder. Their pace quickened, and a large beast stepped in their path. He raised upon his hind legs, grabbed Amy, and ran off with her.

“Holy crap,” Jack said. He ran after her but quickly lost the beast.

He began crying. No way could he go home and tell Mom and Dad that he was responsible for Amy getting kidnapped by a werewolf. He could hear his mother’s voice now.

“Whisper Street Magic is not a toy,” she would say. His dad would be awful,l too.

“I’m very disappointed in you, son,” he would say.

Jack tried to just imagine him and Amy back on Whisper Street,t but that did not happen. This werewolf was too strong for that. He wanted to finish the sto,ry and he knew that’s what he had to do. He would just admit defeat and walk away if not for his sister.

He hurried toward the house and knocked on the front door. Hwaiteded, then,d and when he did not get a reply, he burst inside.

His pistol was now real and contained the magic silver bullet. He went to the kitchen and saw that the elderly lady had been mutilated beyond recognition. He started shaking. Then he heard a voice call out to him.

“Come here, dearie,” the voice said. It sounded like a younger person imitating an old woman.

He entered the bedroom and stepped on what he assumed was just a bearskin rug. He could make out a wolf’s head, paws, and feet that were poking out from beneath a blanket.

“Come closer,” the wolf said. Jack pulled out his gun and pointed it at the wolf.

“Where’s my sister?”

“You’re looking at her stupidly,” the wolf said.

“What do you mean?” Jack said, his hand trembling. The wolf removed its head, and we see Amy’s sweaty face. She removed the paws and feet and stood up.

“Look at the ground,” Amy whispered. Jack did so, and he discovered he was standing on the wolf’s hide.

“How did you kill it?” Jack asked inastonishment.”

“I killed it with my silver-handled sword while he was feeding on that old lady,” Amy said.

“Thank goodness you’re alright,” he said, hugging his sister.

“You’re hugging me?” Amy asked with great surprise.

“I was scared I…” He could not finish his own sentence. The idea was too horrible for words. They grabbed some candy and soon found themselves back on Whisper Street.

“I’m ready to go home,” Jack said.

“Me too. I’ve had enough adventures for one Halloween,” Amy admitted.

“I’ve had enough adventures for ten Halloweens,” Jack declared.
