Passage 37
James sat in the debriefing room a few minutes prior to his trial . This was a usual for his pre-trial enterence but today Christopher and Regina was late. Usually Christopher was already in the room waiting when James was shown inside .
A short bald man name Mr. Vaughn came in and put the file on the table . As he sat down scanning the evidence before him. James was confused where was Christopher and where the hell was Regina ?
" Are you lost ?You are not my lawyer get out of here." Demanded James now confused.
" I am Timothy Vaughn I'm your new court appointment lawyer . Mr. Dayo is no longer with the firm . They have assigned me to you as mr. Dayo's replacement so we can continue this trial without any interruptions." James stared at the man talking like he was a disgusting fly waiting to be knocked down from the buzzing of words he was saying .
Timothy ignored his glares and continued. He was used to stares by now from clients and he wasn't going to show this punk he wasn't bothered by his glares he insisted on giving him.
"I've motioned to delay your hearing for Seventy -two hours while I get caught up on your case . Is there anything you need to let me know about this case before we start?" He said as a matter of fact.
" Christopher isn't working with the firm anymore?" James said picking out that fact. Timothy scoffed that was the only thing he hit out of this entire conversation they were having. He sighed in annoyance. He took a deep breath . As he tried to answer calmly .
" No sir. There was a an apparent conflict of interest with someone in the firm over your case. I got reassigned to you this morning." He said like he didn't want to do ert from the current conversation.
" I want Christopher. I'm not talking unless Christopher and Regina is here." He said now anger and confusion intertwining .
" Look Mr. Barry. Your case is pretty black and white . Hardley any room for grey areas. There is a lot to go over if I'm going to represent you. Just cooperate and I'll see if I can keep you from the electric chair." Timothy snapped. " I have seventy -two hours that is four days for me to catch up what has been going on in your case. That's four days your not seeing your freedom being taken away just yet. If you want to give up and plead guilty and stop wasting everyone's time and money than we can go that route if it's easier." He said aggravated at the non-compliance of his client he just met.
" I want Regina now!" Demanded James. As he stood up face to face with his new lawyer.
" Was Regina your lawyer because I was under the assumption Christopher was the one with the legal degree not her ." Rebuttaled Timothy. Now he was feeling they were getting off topic now and further from progress than before .
James jumped forward trying to hurl the chair at him. Timothy moved as the chair tumbled past him hitting the wall beside him.James came running at him and he moved as he ran into the wall. James stood up swaying. Then he swung at Timothy as Timothy backed up and twisted around catching his wrist and pulled it behind his back and slammed James head on the wall as he held his arm and head against it applying pressure.
" Are you done?" Hissed Timothy. His many years of military training taught him to dodge them use little force to subdue a person. The nerve of this guy he thought. " Because I don't have time to spank you into submission when I'm trying to do my job and your a stubborn brat. " Hissed Timothy as he didn't ever had to work this hard with anyone before as he was a fair person until they made him test his gangster.
" Get off of me. This is assult. This is Against my rights." Screamed James. " What the hell kind of lawyer are you handling me like this " protested James as his face was smashed against the wall. Now feeling pressure from the cold surface.
" Funny. You weren't worried about my rights when you tried to assault me. It seems the injustice only applies to you." Barked Timothy now annoyed by James ignorance.
Timothy dragged James to the side of the door not loosening his grip on him. He moved his foot as he kicked the door to call the guards. Officer Michaels opened the door surprised to see James face smashed into the wall by the lawyer.
Michaels came in as Timothy motioned him to cuff him and take James out of the room . James felt the cuff on his wrist as he tried to break free as Timothy kneeded him in the back of his knee making James kneelas he slid down the wall to the floor as he helped Michaels cuff the other hand behind his back.
" James . When you ready to discuss your case I will be back, but I won't tolerate your acting like a half wit bibarian. I'm here to help you and you want to fight me. " He said now releasing James to Michael's.
" Screw you man. I don't owe you anything." Spitted James at Timothy.
" I appreciate the fight in you it is not necessary. Be a good little boy and help me do my job ." Said Timothy releasing him to Michael's as he pulled him into the hallway.
" Go to hell." Screamed James.
" You first, sir." Said Timothy as Michael's hawled him down the hallway to the holding cells.
Mrs. Molusky sat at the bench waiting to use the briefing room next. She looked the middle age man up and down as she smirked.
" I see you've met unhinged Barry. I do applaused your efforts in subduing him. The last lawyer was too soft for that man . And that woman that tagged along was a real piece of work." She chuckled.
" Yeah He mentioned a Regina a lot in there For a minute I thought she was the lawyer the way he spoke of her? I wasn't briefed on her." Confirmed Timothy.
" She is just a buffer. She was there to keep James distracted . He opened up like a fortune cookie when he refused to talk to Christopher. He just took notes what she could get out of him. But she is well not the best person to keep around. I heard she got in some trouble with the previous lawyer it's why he is no longer at the firm." Explained Mrs. Molusky .
" So a after work affair. I gather. Mixing a little business with pleasure oldest truck in the book." He said reading between the lines .
" You can say that. She was motivation for James. I'm sure you read the file we collected against him . It's a hard road to freedom for that one. He is more brawn than brains . But I do have to say you are the first to best him. He usually gets a couple hits in before he is taken down. " She admitted a bit amused.
" Technically I didn't get a hit in . I invaded and detained. the wall got all of the hits." He said sarcasticly.
Mrs. Molusky let out a laugh as she found the actual fact a comic relief. Mr. Vaughn gave her a small smile on his face as he appreciated humor in his line of work.
" I see I have my work cut out for me. Thank you for briefing me on Regina ." He said nodded to Mrs. Molusky.
" Regina Zehetii. " She said as he began to leave. He turned to look at her as he knew the name associated with a unsolved crimes concerning her former husband where his friend another fellow lawyer Roger Evenburg was accused of causing his untimely death. The Zehetii's in general had some dirty dealade with big oil companies overseas. He nodded his head again for thanks and narrowed his eyes .
" Zehetii ." He hissed out finally.
Meanwhile Bobby -Joe Baker and Ruth-Anne sat cornered in their hotel room. Red and blue lights bouncing off the walls of the aged and peeling wall paper walls. Bobby -Joe paced in the room knowing they had to escape.
" Dammit Ruth-Anne this is all your fault." Yelled Bobby -Joe.
" How is this my fault." She said now worried.
" You had to steal those things. Now they have fingerprints . Four people died . No one was supposed to get hurt . You realize we are in some serious trouble." He said now glaring at her .
" I'm pretty sure the barbequed complex wasn't also a red flag of them being here." She sassed as she filed her nails .
" They tracked us down because you couldn't keep your theiving hands to yourself. You had one job to do and you had to be extra." He yelled.
" How was supposed to know that they go to the pawn shop. " She said beginning to tear up.
A loud bang hit the door . Bobby -Joe looked at his sister with hate as he darted to the bathroom and locked the door. The banging got louder .
" Bobby-Joe Baker and Ruth-Anne Baker . We have a warrant for your arrest open the door with you hands up and come out." Screamed officer Winchester behind the door as a squad of police lines up around the door.
Just then Bobby -Joe jumped out the bathroom window and held on the drain pipe as he scaled the wall to the back alley. Yells moved as the police screamed "back window he is escaping ."as shots were fired. The sound of active bullets made Ruth-Anne jump as she heard the shots as she was scared now . The banging got louder as the door started to crack.
Ruth-Anne realizing her brother had abandoned her now. Panicked as the door was busted opened and she faced a room of officers with guns trained on her. She held her hands up as they swarmed her. She held the nail file in her hand as the looked at it like it was a dangerous weapon.
" Put down the file ."Winchester said as ruth-Anne rolled her eyes.
" Really. It a file not even a metal one." She said now tossing it on the bed .
She tried to not touch anything as she held her hands out because she wasn't going to be able to run in heels. They cuffed her as she let out a yelp thinking it was rougher then necessary. This was humiliating being drugged out of a flea ridden hotel in cuffs and everyone hearing her name as they yelled it as loud as possible. She wobbled a little as she was pushed to walk faster than she wanted too. She stepped outside to the cruiser. As now they were flattening her hair pushing her in the car.
" Ouch! You don't need to touch me so rough. That hurt and you messed up my hair." Complained Ruth-Anne . The felt violated them putting their hands on her like the way they did right now. Ruth-Anne looked out the window wondering where the hell did her brother go. She was so mad at him when she heard the gunshots she secretly hoped the shot him in the butt as he fled the scene and left her there to be thoroughly embarrassed I. Front of every person in the surrounding hotel rooms.
She hated this feeling and she was so angry at Bobby -Joe for what he did . She felt a certain kind of way about being left behind and surrounded by offices point guns at her and aggressively making her go to a cruiser for all to see. It was inhumane and down right humiliating how far she had fallen from where she came from. It wasn't supposed to be like this . She wasn't supposed to live her life like this. Everyone was disappointing her and failing her in this moment. She was utterly alone.
