Chapter Four
“You still love me,right?” Starfleck asked, her heart racing with that one tiny thread of hope. “Right?”
Instead of answering, Nighthawk slightly turned his head downwards while his eyes narrowed to slits.
That small thread of hope that Starflecks had been clinging to, was immediately crushed into tiny shards of nothingness. It brought a flood of hot tears as her ears drooped to the sides.
For a few moments, Starfleck couldn’t say anything to defend herself. Her heart was shattering piece by piece, her mind collapsing in on itself as her body began lowering itself until she was on her belly.
“You’re gonna be fine, Starfleck,” Gently spoke Nighthawk as he too began laying upon his moss bed four rabbit-hops away from her. Closing his eyes, the tom began to fall asleep. “I promise you on StarClan that you’ll be fine.”
‘Fine? He thinks I’m going to be fine?!’ Starfleck was shouting in her head as the den around began spinning, the ground starting to tilt. It was dizzying and Starfleck was trying hard not to vomit.
Not even sleep could come to take her away from what just happened. So, all through the night, Starfleck stared hard at Nighthawk. The shock started to fade away into nothingness, though the hot tears still streamed down her cheeks before plopping into the sand.
That nothingness soon disappeared, leaving her hollow, empty. By the time morning started to arrive, the sun’s rays turned the deep plum sky a light pinkish orange; and by the time Starfleck had actually fallen asleep, that hollowness inside of her had started to fill with fury.
It was light at first, but started to turn into an inferno when the entire camp sprang into life.
