Feeling great
Then I vividly recall the day that our house caught on fire. I came home from school, as usual that day. Everyone in our large household was downstairs, kids gathered around the TV, watching cartoons, grandmother in the kitchen, preparing dinner for us. This was the daily routine. But on this day our neighbor came banging on the door. "The house is on fire." she frantically screamed. And right at that moment, we began to smell and see smoke. It was coming from upstairs. Everyone got out safely and we stood solemnly across the street with our neighbors and watched our house burn. The entire second floor was engulfed in flames. Several family members cried, for there was a lot of love and memories in that burning house. At that time there was no FEMA or Salvation Army to help fire victims with food, shelter, or other needs. But thanks to our neighbors and friends, every member of our family had a comfortable, safe, warm and dry place to sleep at night. We continued to eat well, and no one missed even a single day of school. Without thinking twice, our neighbors came together and were there for us with unwavering love. I will never forget the unquestioned love of our neighbors on Harrison Avenue. It is this kind of love and compassion that I have learned to extend to others. Currently I am sitting here writing this to you, for you. And I feel great.
