Three
“So, uh what exactly happened back at that town?”
We were walking for about an hour, and I just had to know what happened. He was there, so he must know what went down, maybe even was involved. Which I know means I probably shouldn’t be hanging out with him, but I need help. If I want to survive this world. Then I need someone who’s from this world to help me. Even if I had to make a deal with him in order to make him help me. I just hope I didn’t make the most biggest mistake of my life. I know I should be worried about what he wants in exchange of helping me. I surprisingly don’t care, at least not now. I’m worried about what Destiny is gonna say to me, and if there’s even a way for me to get back home.
“Why so curious?”
“Well, it’s not everyday I see a dragon dead on top of a burned down town.”
“I guess in your case, that’s true.”
“So?”
“The town got attacked by a dragon. I don’t know how much obvious it can be.”
“Did you help the dragon attack it or were you trying to help the people?”
“I told you. I don’t help mortals.”
“So you were helping the dragon?”
“No. Dragons and demons don’t really mix.”
“Then what happened? I’m confused.”
“If you must know mortal. I was there trying to rob the town. The dragon came and burned it down. Nearly killed me with it. I killed it out of rage, and end of story.”
“Oh okay.”
“Not what you were expecting?”
“No. Not really.”
Necra stops suddenly as he seems like he’s on high alert. I stop with him trying to figure out what’s wrong. I didn’t see or hear anything, but apparently he does. I went to ask him what was wrong, when he grabs me suddenly and shoves me into a bush. I went to yell at him when he covers my mouth. I grab ahold of his cold hands as I went to rip them off when I suddenly felt the ground rumble a bit. My eyes went wide, as it felt like it could be something big coming. My heart started to race faster out of fear, and I tried not to panic. I don’t want to die yet. I didn’t even get my answers yet. I squeezed my eyes shut hoping it will just pass, when the rumbling stopped. I peek my eyes open and all I saw was dust flying past us. How big was it? It definitely ran past us, whatever it was.
I heard Necra let out a sigh as he lets go of my mouth, before standing up and walking out of the bush. I sat there for a second, before I followed suit. I looked at the direction the dust was following. Blinking a few times due to the dust, rubbing my eyes before finally looking away. Then I looked down and saw a million of hoof prints. What the hell? Hoof prints? Was he afraid of horses? I glanced at him before looking at the direction they all went, before looking back over at him. I then let out a small smirk as I try not to burst out laughing.
“Hoof prints huh?”
“Yeah so what?”
“Your afraid of horses? I never thought demons would be afraid of horses.”
Necra stops what he was doing, before turning towards me confused, then rolls his eyes like he realized something. He crosses his arms over his chest as he lets out an annoyed sigh. He then mutters something under his breath that almost sounded like it was in a different language. Which I guess that makes sense considering he’s a demon, but makes me wonder what he said.
“Sometimes I forget that you aren’t from around here. I don’t know how I can forget. You make it so obvious.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“These aren’t just any type of horse hoof prints. There centaurs hoof prints. Guards of the king.”
“What?”
“Centaurs guard the good king, while Minotaurs guards the bad king.”
“Wait, wait hold on. Centaurs and Minotaurs? They are real too?”
“Are you really asking that after seeing a dead dragon and meeting a demon?”
“I-I uh well it’s just that I just can’t get my head wrapped around all of this.”
“Get used to it mortal. This world is filled with monsters, creatures, mythical beings that your world probably doesn’t have.”
“Oh, uh goodie?”
We continue our journey in silence. I tried to wrap my head around everything. I just couldn’t believe everything that’s happened to me. I still don’t understand why Destiny would bring me here. Why me? Of all of the billions of people in my world. I shouldn’t be here. I’m not gonna be able to survive here, and certainly not with a demon who’s only helping me because I made a deal with him. Once he’s done helping me, and get what he wants he will leave me stranded in the woods. I’ll have no where’s to go and nobody else to talk to. I’ll be screwed. I’ll be killed for sure. I know nothing of this world, and I don’t even know how long I’ve been here but it just seems like the day is never ending. I’m saying that because I’m already tired. Sleepy even, and I want to go to bed but it seems like it’s still daytime. I just don’t understand it.
I glanced up at where the sun is, and saw that it does look like it went down a little since I been here. It doesn’t seem like it goes very fast though. I let out a yawn as this day feels like it’s dragging, and my stomach grumbled again out of hunger. I completely forgot that I haven’t found anything to eat. I glance over at Necra and wanted to ask if we could rest, and maybe find some food. I don’t think he would though, considering he keeps saying he doesn't help mortals. But, I’m tired and I’m starving. I didn't exactly have time to pack food before coming here, or even bring water for that matter. I let out another yawn making Necra stop and turn towards me annoyed.
“Are you seriously tired already? We’ve barely begun.”
“I’m sorry. I just feel tired, and this day just feels like it’s going on forever.”
“It doesn’t go on forever. The sun stays up for about eighteen to twenty high stars. Then the moon will come up for about eighteen to twenty high stars.”
“What? High stars? And what? Those are long days and nights.”
“Not here it’s not. It’s completely normal and how we all live.”
“We only have our sun up for twelve hours in my world.”
“Lame. How are you supposed to get anything done?”
“What? No, wait never mind that can we just take a small rest? Please?”
“You want to rest near where we just almost had a run in with centaurs? That’s a bad idea.”
“But didn’t you said that they work for the good king?”
“Yes, and if you haven’t forgotten I’m a demon.”
“I’m just tired and hungry. I just want to rest for a bit. Maybe take a small nap, and find something to eat.”
Necra groans in frustration before telling me fine, but not here. He grabs onto my wrist before I felt a weird sensation, and black smoke surrounding us. I begun to panic as it completely surrounds us, and soon we are in a different location. I bend over feeling like I have to throw up as that made my stomach turn. Necra just chuckles at my discomfort before telling me to come inside. I look up still feeling a bit sick and dizzy, and saw a cave. I blink a few times and was confused. He can teleport and he chose now to do it? What a jerk. He could’ve just teleported us to Destiny's lair in the beginning. I stood up and walked into the cave and saw him casually lying down against the cave wall. I balled my fists as I marched towards him, and stood in front of him.
“Can I help you?”
“Um yes! If you could teleport all this time, then why not just teleport us to the lair?”
“Because I can’t.”
“What do you mean you can’t? You just-”
“I mean I can’t teleport far distances. Especially when I have a passenger with me, and besides Destiny has a barrier up so people can’t just teleport into her lair.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah oh. Now lay down and take your nap or whatever. I want this journey over with just as much as you do.”
“Ned I-”
“Stop fucking calling me Ned!”
“I’m sorry.”
“Just take your stupid nap.”
Necra stood up as he marches out of the cave. I sat down before leaning against the cave wall. I don’t know what to do, and I don’t mean to keep making him upset. I just don’t know anything about this world, and his name is just unique. I guess I should just try and say it. I’m not even trying. Then again he’s not even saying my name either, he’s just calling me mortal. That doesn’t seem fair at all, but do I really want to keep testing the patience of a demon? I don’t know much about them, and I don’t really want to get killed. I let out a sigh as I lay down and tried to get as comfy as I can. Hopefully I can get some sort of sleep, and hopefully when I wake up he will be in a better mood. I just want this journey to be over with as well.
