Ten
“Does that feel a little better? Just nod or shake.”
I nod to answer Renajan’s question. He came back with his herbs, and mixed them all together before rubbing it on my throat. It felt cold, but instantly warmed up and my throat slowly started to eased up on the pain. I let out a small sigh feeling grateful for not having to feel the pain. I mean it’s not healed, but it calmed it down a lot. I wish it never happened at all, as that would’ve been much better. I don’t know how I’m supposed to adjust to this world if the Zmora keeps bothering me in my sleep.
“Now what? The Zmora will just keep coming after her in her sleep.”
“Well, it would’ve been nice to be let known that she had a Zmora bothering her in the first place.”
“What difference would that make? We can’t stop him unless we kill him, and we don’t even know where he is.”
“No, but I could’ve stopped him from coming into her dreams.”
“Wha-”
Renajan shushes me as I tried to say what but ended up coughing instead. He then explains to me that he has herbs that can prevent Zmora’s from entering his dreams. I watch as he takes some out and ties it in my hair. I touched it gently, and caught a whiff of it. I realized that it’s lavender. It’s just lavender. I smiled smelling the familiar scent as I lay down trying to get some sleep now. In all honestly. I’m still afraid, but if this herb helps then I want to take the chance and try to get some more sleep. I watched as Renajan climbs up his tree again, as he rest comfortably. I glance over at Necra who looks a bit annoyed, as he crosses his arms over his chest. I raised my eyebrow at him wondering why he’s annoyed. I wanted to ask, but can’t talk right now. Hopefully tomorrow I’ll be able to talk a bit more, and things will hopefully go a little smoother.
I closed my eyes, and tried to sleep. I still have that fear that he will come back in my dream. I just hope this lavender works, otherwise I might die this time. My eyes flutter closed as I’m instantly passed out, as my body felt more tired than I actually realized. The faint scent of the lavender followed me into the darkness, making my body feel relaxed. I felt content, and actually felt safe. The darkness of my mind is just filled with the scent of lavender. I felt no worry, as my body soon fell into a deep sleep.
When I finally woke up, and actually woke up on my own accord. I saw that the sun was up, so I had to squint at first. I blink a couple times, before looking over where the guys slept. I saw that Renajan was gone and Necra was stretching. I slowly sit up stretching my arms. Necra turns around hearing me, before asking how I’m feeling.
“Better.”
“That’s good. The elf went to get food.”
“Oh. That’s good. I’m hungry.”
“Once we eat we will continue.”
“Okay. Um, Necra?”
“Yeah?”
“I’m sorry.”
“Fuck why?”
“Being useless. I can’t defend myself, and all I did was keep you and Ren up.”
“Kiera, you’re not from here. We don’t expect you to adjust to our world overnight. The Zmora is to blame for keeping us up. He invaded your mind, your dreams. Don’t apologize.”
“I’m back with some food.”
Necra and I look over to see Renajan coming over with a basket, and a bucket. I stood up and walk over as he sets them down. I noticed the bucket is filled with water, and the basket is filled with berries and apples. It’s not the most filling breakfast, but it will do. I grabbed an apple before sitting down again, and taking a bite. Necra and Renajan did the same, well except Necra didn’t grab any apples or berries. When I swallowed my bite, I’ve asked him why.
“I’m a demon. We don’t eat often and besides we don’t eat fruits.”
“Oh.”
“Don’t mind him.”
“So, um how much further do you think?”
“Well, we have an elf with us now. I’m not gonna be able to teleport all three of us very far.”
“Why teleport? Didn’t you say you’re going to Destiny’s? She’s just over that mountain.”
I turn around with a wide smile, which got wiped off of my face quickly. That mountain is huge! My apple fell from my hand as I stare at it wondering how many days and nights it’s gonna take us to get there. I’m gonna be here forever! I had a hard time just surviving one day and one night. I can’t imagining trying to survive more days and nights here.
“Don’t scare her elf. She’s not over the mountain, she’s somewhere in the middle.”
I can’t tell if that’s better or worse.
“Shall we get going then?”
“How long do you think it will take for us to get there?”
“Well my human friend. I think depending if we don’t get no delays, we should be there by night fall.”
I brighten up at that.
“Of course with our luck lately, we will get delayed and probably won’t get there until tomorrow morning.”
My brighten day just got shattered.
“Now who’s scaring who demon?”
“I’m not scaring anyone elf!”
“You just did! Telling her that we won’t get there until tomorrow morning.”
“Guys!”
I coughed after yelling that, and my throat started to hurt after a little as well. I swallowed a little, before I continued what I wanted to say.
“We’re wasting the day now. Let’s just go now, and see how long it takes us to get there.”
They nodded in agreement, but Renajan told me he’s gonna put more herbs on my throat first. Luckily he still had some leftover from last night. I let him put some on, and when he finished we picked up our food. Necra made sure the fire was completely out, before we continued our journey. I’m hoping it’s not gonna be a very long journey, but I guess I’ll have to wait and see.
