One
My body felt light, almost like I was floating in mid air. The air around me felt cold, empty, and something else that I couldn’t pin point. I couldn’t remember how I got here, or what I was even doing before I came here. I just know somehow I’m oddly calm. I’m not afraid to be here, and only curiosity fills me. Whatever happened before all of this, it almost doesn’t seem to matter now. It’s like I’m meant to be here, and it doesn’t want me to be afraid. I just feel warmth, almost like I’m at peace. It’s just all seems odd to me though, this place is just all white. Nothing to be seen. Am I dead?
“You’re awake.”
The voice in my head spoke suddenly, but it was soft and it wasn’t a question but a statement. There is no one else here but me, so it freaked me out a bit. Where was this person hiding? How are they speaking in my mind? That warm and calm feeling I felt before quickly went away replaced with fear. I couldn’t move, couldn’t even sit up. Just float here in the middle of the white abyss. I’m assuming I’m in the middle at least.
“Don’t be afraid child. You aren’t in any danger here.”
“Who are you? How are you speaking in my mind?”
“I go by many names, child. I’m made entirely of magic, which helps me speak to you through your mind.”
“Magic? Okay, so uh am I dead or something?”
“No, child. You’re very much still alive. I brought you here myself. You’re not in your universe anymore child.”
“Wait. My universe? What do you mean by that?”
“You’re in my world now, child. I brought you here to fulfill your purpose.”
“You’re insane. This is just a dream, and when I wake up you will just disappear.”
“This isn’t a dream, and I can prove it child.”
I’m not giving a chance to say anything else, when my surroundings disappeared. I felt that cold, empty and weird floating feeling quickly disappearing. The white surroundings disappeared, and soon my eyes snapped open as I stare up not at the ceiling of my home. But a crystal blue sky. I felt the wind blowing slightly, and I heard birds chirping. This isn’t my living room. Doesn’t look like my backyard either. I have no idea where I am.
“That’s because you aren’t home, child.”
“Where am I?”
I sat up looking around the forest, and I do admit it’s beautiful. Tall trees with healthy green leaves, with bushy green bushes and batches of flowers here and there. It’s almost like a forest you would see right from one of those fantasy shows. Always so bright and healthy, so full of life, except this one feels different. I don’t know how, but I have this strange feeling like it’s different. The air feels cleaner, breathable, and the wind feels both chill but warm at the same time.
“Welcome to Faelania, child.”
“Where?”
“Faelania. It’s where I’m from, and it’s where you are now, child.”
“Okay, but why am I here?”
“It is your destiny. I recommend adjusting quickly, and finding your bound mate.”
“My what now?”
“Goodbye child. We will be in touch soon. Find your bound mate quickly and stay alive.”
“Whoa wait a minute! You’re just gonna dump me here and then leave me here without answering any of my questions?”
Silence.
“Fine leave! Who needs you anyways. I’m dreaming about all of this weird crap. I’ll wake up soon enough. In the mean time I’ll play along.”
I stood up looking around the woods, and wondering which way would be best to go. I’ve never really been this far away from home before, but then again I’m only dreaming. So, not like anything can happen to me. Stupid weird voice. I have no idea what they were talking about. Finding my bound mate? What does that even mean? Why would a random voice in my dream just dump me here in the middle of the woods anyways? I have such weird dreams, unless I’m really dead after all. I’m so confused on what I’m even supposed to be doing anyways.
I let out a sigh as I walk in a random direction, hoping I’ll wake up soon. This is by far the weirdest, and longest dream I’ve ever had. I’m bound to wake up soon, and then I can go back to my normal life. Whatever it was. I don’t understand why I can’t really remember what I was doing before here. It’s so strange. It’s almost like someone doesn’t want me to remember. Did that voice have anything to do with this? If so, why? What does she gain from this anyways? In bringing me here and erasing my memory, or whatever she did to me. Nothing about this dream makes sense, and I just want to wake up now. I’m already tired of walking in these woods. I just don’t know where I’m going, or if I’m even heading anywhere that’s worth it. I don’t know if I’m heading to a town or just deeper into the woods. I’ve never been here, and why would I? I have no reason or business to be hanging around in the woods.
I don’t know how long I’ve been walking, but soon I started to hear water. I knew immediately a creek or a stream was nearby. I rushed towards it as I’m dying of thirst. When I found the most bluest, and clearest stream of water I’ve ever seen I stood there in shock. It literally looks like from a dream or a cartoon or something. I kneel in front of it before splashing some water on my face, and then scooping some water in my hands taking gulps of water. It tasted so fresh and so refreshing. So much better than the water when I’m awake. Kind of wish this place was real now. I went to splash some more water on myself when I saw my reflection. I froze.
“What the hell?”
My hair is still the same curly brown hair, and my skin is still the pale skin tone I have always known. What shocked me is the fact that my eye colors have changed. They aren’t there usual brown color but a bright hazel color. They almost look like they are glowing slightly. I shook my head as I squeeze my eyes close before looking at my reflection again. Nothings changed. They are still the same. I just chuckled as now I know I’m definitely dreaming. There’s no way my eye colors could magically changed. It’s just a dream, and soon I’ll wake up with my normal brown eyes and back in my home.
I splashed more water on me, and then took another sip of water before I stood up. I look up and down the stream, trying to decide which way to go. Usually streams leads into towns. Usually at least, and I’m hoping this one does. I decided to head down the stream, following it and hoping a town is nearby. Unless I wake up from this dream first. Whichever honestly I don’t care. I’m hoping to wake up first, as I don’t really want to talk to anyone that was created in a dream. This is all already weird enough, and I don’t feel like talking to a fake dream person. I run my hand through my hair, wondering what I would say if I have to talk to someone. Do I bring up that they are fake in my dream? Do I just let them believe that they are real, or do they already know that they are fake and in my dream? I don’t know how this shit works. I’m not usually able to control what my dream state is able to do or say. I just follow for the ride. This is all a new experience for me.
My stomach suddenly grumbled, and I stopped as I held onto it. All I can think of is I have no idea where to get food in the woods. Then I thought, wait I’m dreaming. How am I hungry? Then another thought occurred to me. How was I thirsty? I should’ve realized that when I was dying of thirst a few moments ago. What the hell is going on? I’m dreaming. I have to be, but you don’t get hungry or thirsty in a dream. Right? I shook my head, refusing to believe this is all real. This can’t be real. My eyes are faintly glowing hazel, and I’m in a total different world called Fae land or something. I took a breath and tried to ignore everything. It might just be a ruse to make me believe everything, and I’m not actually asleep dreaming all of this. That’s gotta be it. I just need to keep going and hopefully I’ll wake up soon.
It’s probably been an hour of me walking beside of this stream. My stomach grumbled at least two more times, freaking me out to be honest. I was ready to collapse on the ground and give up for a bit. I don’t know what to do or where to go. I haven’t heard that voice since she dropped me here and left me. A whiff of smoke filled my nose, making me snap my head in the direction of it. It wasn’t coming from the direction of where I’ve been going, but over a hill a little ways to the right of the stream. I hesitated for a second, but then ran towards the smoke. It doesn’t smell like campfire smoke, it smells like something burning and I have a feeling it might be big. I kept running until I was on top of the hill, and my eyes widen at what I saw.
