Chapter Twenty
“This place is becoming so boring. Urgh!!” The sound of claws digging into the bark of a tree slowly filled the eternal night of Place of No Stars. Lowering his body in a half arch, and yawning hugely, the jet black tom shook his mangy pelt. How long has it been? A moon? Longer? Hard to tell when the place you’ve been sent to doesn’t change with the seasons. It just sticks with nighttime. ‘Or was it daytime? Bah! Why am I thinking of these things?!’ The tom thought as he slowly paced in a slow circle.
Just as his mind was about to snap with insanity, the smell of ash began to fill his nostrils. “Took you long enough.” He growled with impatience as a skinny looking tom with a crooked smile and light purple eyes approached from the trees behind the tom. Permanent burn marks scored the fuzzy orange pelt of the new approaching cat. Scabbed over, and looking nasty as though he’d always been scratching at them, the tom gave the other a weird look.
“Oh I’m sorry that killing queens and their mates, while leaving their kits alive, was an easy task.” He purred amusingly. “You better thank your pelt that I can barely kill them before anyone else notices and rushes over. Seriously though, why go after clan cats? Especially she-cats that had barely birthed kits? Loners I can understand.
So, what’s the deal with that, Lunarshadow? What’s your game here?”
“My game?” Absentmindedly scratching at his left ear with his hind-paw, Lunarshadow pretended to think about it before answering. “My game is, uh, none of your business. If I told you about it, then you might accidentally spill it to them; which ruins the whole point of the game. Simple as that. Besides, I just need to get his and her attention. Which is a little bit more difficult when I can’t do it myself. Shouldn’t be long though. And I can sense Bloodpaw getting closer to realizing what’s going on.
I know that cat hasn’t completely forgotten about me. I can feel it in my bones.”
“You really think he’s going to fall for your schemes?” Mewled Dapplescar with a soft purr of mirth. “If anything, he looks like he doesn’t care about the, oh so called mysteries surrounding his lineage.”
“And that’s why you were killed the moment you became an apprentice. Could never see the big picture of things.” Lunarshadow taunted, knowing full well it got under Dapplescar’s skin. Sure enough, a soft yet deep growl escaped through the tight lips of the other.
“Not my fault that the leader of Thunderclan was such a riddle talker.” He hissed while stretching out his claws and creating small furrows in the ground. “I’m going to enjoy killing every single one of his queens before I kill Lightstar myself.”
“That’s the spirit.” Lunarshadow mewled in a sarcastic tone. “Whatever helps you get through your life.” Rolling his eyes towards the thick branches above him, Lunarshadow began to smile by revealing his white fangs. The chill that ran upon his spine made him shiver with anticipation. He could feel the time getting closer when he was strong enough to leave The Place of No Stars without having to possess the body of another cat. ‘I do wonder how that warrior of Shadowclan is doing? I do hope he’s not having nightmares of the things he’s already committed.’ As the view started to pan out, the chilling laughter of Lunarshadow began to echo across the void.
