Part 5 - The End

Four hours later, we reached Atlantic City. We tied off our horses and walked into the sheriff’s office.

“Here you go, Sheriff,” I said. “Your criminal.”

Sheriff Lanson leaned close to Will. “Come find me when you’re released.”

Will smirked. “You played your card right, Asher. Maybe we can be partners someday.”

The sheriff cuffed him and locked him in a cell. Then he turned to me.

“I’m impressed, young man. And you came back in one piece.”

He handed me a thick reward.

“Thank you, sir,” I said. “You have a good evening.”

I stepped outside. The sky was turning violet. Coyotes howled from the hills.

My journey had ended.

At least… until the next one found me.
