Chapter 5
After my uncles funeral. I slumbered in a grey fog of my mind. The world dimmed and seized to make sense anymore. The house parents were worried and placed me in a room closer to their apartment with an older girl .
I would wake up many nights with fighting dreams . Tormented dreams. My grades were slipping and I was angry. I was eight years old and I couldn't read. I don't know if my mind was blocking it from regressing progress nor if I never learned to read.
An older girl named Bethany stayed up with me day and night with hooked on phonics and drilled me as I cried and protested against any information I refused to retain.
The trauma of my uncles death ,my fathers face,my sisters animosity towards me. It was all building up. Slowly knowing on my subconscious.i would have vivid dreams not like sleep paralysis.
I dreamt of a huge castle . Dragons guarding the corners and pegasus on the beach front. Magiclal glowing fish in the seas that waters so clear you can see the bottom, and a kingdom . My kingdom. I saw my people below bowing to their sovereign. Welcoming her to rule fairly without cruelty. A fair and just ruler.
This dream made me smile as I found some peace in my dreams . Then darkness descended across the skies . The sky grew red as blood .the walls dripped in blood. Heads spiked on the wall from former friends that are now my enemies.
Fire and chaos reigned over the kingdom. Armies in the distance waiting for orderes. The black queen disguised as a child.
"Hail the dark child queen ,hail the mother of rebirth." Yelled the loyal constituents.
In the water reflect worlds not our own. Swirling and changing in time. The lingering doom settling over me. Is this my path I wondered. Then the blade drops from the guillotine.
I jerk up directly . Heart pulsing.looking around. This dream was lucid like I was there. It was on my mind . Not fleeting like the last one I had.
Today I was on farm crew. I was there to take care of the horses and the cows. Today was branding day. But today was special. We received two stable horses. One white stallion and another white female. A brother and sister pair that broke obedience school. The group home purchased the pair for one thousand dollars.
The female horse was a shy thing . Her hooves were overgrown and she could barely trot. She was originally adopted by Scarlett. I adopted the brother I named him Thunder. He was a well build stallion ones that you see in Disney movies. He was magnificent and wild. He hadn't been broken so he wasn't ridable . He couldn't even be saddled. He bit and he reared up around other horses. This was my horse.
I placed my hands on his nose the soft skin felt like velvet under my touch. He huffed and stilled under my touch. They had him quarter in the brushing and bathing stall with four ropes holding him still. He couldn't be in a stall he kicked the walls. This room was concrete . I just kept my hand on his nose and we didn't speak. We just felt each other.
He was a peaceful horse around me. But he was also naughty. He liked buttons. If you had a button he bite you trying to get the button. If you had food he would bite you to get it. One time I had a half apple slices in my jeans as I was brushing him in his confined space. He bit my pocket and my booty . I gave him the apple. That hurt I said to him in my mind.
Thunder wasonly allowed in the arena area to exercise by a lead . He wasn't allowed in the open paster. He also gets into fights when he was allowed there. I loved thunder just the way he was. Wild and free. I didn't want to ride him. He was a beast I couldn't tame and I understood that. But he also only preferred me. Anyone else try to touch him he go into fits. He nigh and rear up .
Because we switched crews every two weeks . To have a chance to work all crew I only came to see him every six weeks. Even though id sneak off from my crew daily to see him it was only for thirty minutes. The next person well wasn't as lucky.
Thunder had a mighty temper. This day his temper had consequences. Thunder rose up on a ranch hand we hired to bail hay from a neighbor farm . He took care of the horses when we were at school. He branded the newly purchased steeds from the auction house .
He came up to Thunder to let him out to the arena area, but Thunder had other plans. Thunder rose up and hooves planted missing the fallen farmhand by inches. That day they sold Thunder . They told me to a glue factory and I cried knowing what they meant. Glue factory was for horses they put down. That was the last I saw my Thunder. No goodbyes no farewell wishes . Just gone I stood there in the empty concrete room. The ropes hanging on the wall. I saw the spirit of remembering Thunder there mighty and strong. He was no older than a teenager in heart. He was a young stallion. Not an old aging one. It's why I didn't understand why the sent him there. Why they forfeited his life like that.
I sat at the edge of the woods in despair . I don't why I keep coming back to these woods you would think I would learn to stay away from it. But Everytime in my time of need I was drawn here why?
I looked in the woods and saw a large yellow cat with slick hair and green eyes. I looked to see if there were other cats but I saw none. This was no domestic cat . This cat stood tall the size of well me. I was already three foot and this cat towered over me from what I could see in the distance.
It turned to look directly at me. I locked eyes on it. Most animals would see this as a challenge. But this cat beccond me to follow him.
So I followed.
