Chapter 4: Will You Marry Me?
Consciousness returned to Lia like a gentle tide, drawn forth by the sweet sensation of Malachai’s lips pressing against her forehead. His touch carried the warmth of summer sunshine, making her skin tingle with delight. Her eyes fluttered open focusing on the ethereal beauty of her soulmate hovering above her. His otherworldly features seemed to glow in the morning light.
“Good morning, baby,” she whispered, voice still husky with sleep. His responding smile made her heart skip a beat.
“Good morning, my princess. I have a big surprise for you today.” He traced her jawline with one finger, sending shivers down her spine. “Why don’t you get dressed and meet me in the living room?” Before pulling away, he captured her lips in a kiss that tasted of exotic herbal tea and promises – chamomile, lavender, and something distinctly otherworldly that she could never quite identify.
In the bathroom, she found her clothes laid out with meticulous care, just as he did every morning. The gesture, though small, spoke volumes about his devotion. After years of neglect and abuse, being treated like a princess still felt like a dream she might wake from at any moment. But the reality of his love was undeniable in these daily acts of tenderness.
The lingerie he'd chosen was a delicate pink set that felt like rose petals against her skin. The lavender dress floated around her curves like morning mist, the fabric so fine it seemed to whisper with every movement. She brushed her hair until it shone like silk in the mirror, each stroke a meditation on how dramatically her life had changed. A swipe of pink lip gloss completed her transformation.
Her steps were light as she entered the living room, but the sight before her stopped her in her tracks. Every surface was covered with packed boxes, their life together carefully contained and labeled. “Are we moving?” The question escaped her lips in a breathless whisper. Malachai approached her taking her hands in his. His touch was electric, sending tingles of energy through her fingers.
“Remember when you summoned me and agreed to the price of your soul?” His voice was gentle but carried undertones of something ancient and powerful. She met his supernatural gaze without hesitation, finding comfort in the swirling depths of his eyes.
“I’ve spoken with my father,” he continued, his thumbs tracing circles on her palms. “He’s agreed to release me from my duties. No more fulfilling wishes, no more earthly constraints.” His voice dropped to a whisper. “I’m taking you to my realm, where we can be married and live together for eternity.”
“Married?” The word escaped her lips like a prayer.
The sight of him dropping to one knee made her heart stop. Tears welled up in her eyes. “Lia,” he began, his voice thick with emotion, “from the moment your wish crossed the veil between worlds, from the first glimpse of your face, I knew you were my soulmate. Though I am an Incubus and you are human, our souls are woven together like threads of celestial silk. Our hearts beat in perfect synchronization, a duet that echoes through both realms. I am yours, and you are mine, for all of eternity.”
He produced a ring box that Seemed to be carved from shadow itself. When it opened, a pink diamond caught the light and sparkled.
“Yes!” The word burst from her heart before he could even finish asking. “Yes, I’ll marry you!” He slipped the ring onto her finger, where it sat as if it had always belonged there, and pulled her Into a kiss that tasted of destiny.
“I’m going to transport everything at once,” he explained, his voice taking on a practical tone despite the magic crackling in the air around them. “Hold onto me and don’t be afraid.” His arms encircled her protectively.
“You are my safe space,” she whispered against his chest. “I love you.”
“I love you too, my beautiful princess.” Their lips met once more before he raised his hand, tearing reality apart with a gesture. A portal opened before them, swirling with colors that had no names in any human language. With practiced efficiency, he directed their boxed possessions through the dimensional tear before turning to her. “Ready to jump through the portal?” She nodded, clutching his hand tighter.
They leaped together into infinity, emerging in a realm that defied human comprehension – a place where physics bent like poetry and reality flowed like music.
“Before you meet my father,” Malachai said softly, “there’s something I need to show you.” They descended a spiral staircase that seemed to be carved from living shadow, each step echoing with ancient power. The dungeon they entered was cold and damp, the air heavy with the metallic scent of blood.
There, sprawled on the stone floor, lay Ben’s corpse. His body was a canvas of violence, dozens of precise cuts creating a grotesque artwork across his flesh. A pool of crimson spread beneath him. Lia turned away from the sight, not out of horror or grief, but because it represented the final page of a chapter she was ready to close forever. Relief flooded through her body like a cleansing wave.
“Thank you,” she whispered, burrowing into Malachai’s chest. His arms encircled her.
“Anything for you, my princess,” he murmured into her hair, his lips brushing her forehead in a tender blessing. In that moment, surrounded by darkness but filled with light, Lia knew she was exactly where she was meant to be.
